Owerri – Four occupants of a two storey building on Fire Service/Mbaise Road died after the building collapsed at the early hour on Sunday.
Five other occupants of the building were, however, rescued but they sustained various degrees of injuries.
The Coordinator of Owerri Operations, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Evans Ugoh, who affirmed the setbacks to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said salvages operation was progressing.
"We have possessed the capacity to safeguard five individuals while four have been affirmed dead, yet we are still on to check whether there are others caught in the building," he said.
Okochukwu Nnadi, an observer and tricycle administrator, said the episode occurred around 4 a.m on Sunday.
"I turned out right on time to pass on early morning admirers to chapel before the crumple happened.
"I was the person who raced to the police headquarters close to the house to caution them on the episode.
"I was stunned to see four individuals effectively dead when they were brought out of the place," he said.
Gov.Rochas Okorocha, who later went to the scene stated, "This is exceptionally dismal."
"I will take exceptional measures to checkmate sub-standard structures in this state, paying little respect to who is included," he said.
Okorocha guaranteed that the state government would deal with the doctor's visit expenses of the casualties recovering in the hospital.(NAN)
